My passion for ending suffering in the world began when I was a little girl and my dad read to me the story of “The Little Match Girl” by Hans Christian Andersen. I can still see my little hands reaching out to that little girl who was hungry, cold, and forgotten. I have witnessed much suffering over the years which has deepened my desire to help others. I have worked with indigenous women in the jungles of Costa Rica and Guatemala, assisting them feed their children and empowering them through micro-loans. I have spent time on the streets of Birmingham helping the forgotten homeless, those suffering from AIDS, and drug addictions. I have helped young mothers find safe shelter. I have laughed with children and cried with those who had no one who cared for them. I still see their faces. It is a privilege and joy to be invited to sit with you in your dark hour. Please take hope and know that “Weeping may terry for the night, but joy comes with the morning”- Psalm 30:5.
